Does Anyone Use A Humidifier Or Air Purifier?

The heating is kept on alot during the day now it is winter and i'm wondering if a humidifier or air purifier would help decrease asthma, allergies ir respiratory conditions in my six week old as it mentions in the mothercare catalogue. Does anyone use these and find them effective or am i fine just using a bowl of water?
