Good Quality Air Purifier?

I'm looking for a good quality air purifier for a small room. I have asthma, and I'm mainly looking to get rid of dust and odor. What is HEPA? I'm looking for something under $100. Is Honeywell a good brand? Also what does a charcoal filter do?
